Pakistan Censor Board didn't allow Raees to screen in Pakistan. The CBFC Chairman of Pakistan, Mubashir Hasan says: "In any Islamic state like Pakistan, selling alcohol is illegal, and in the film, Shah Rukh Khan , is a bootlegger and sells alcohol which is unacceptable to the Pakistani audience."

Secondly, he says, "Raees Aslam, who is a Muslim, is from the underworld; a negative character. Thirdly, "The gold smuggling scenes tough to digest."

A Pakistani producer said: "One from the Army and intelligence unit watches the movie. The CBFC had certain reservations about Bajrangi Bhaijaan also, but they passed it because it showed Pakistan in a positive light. I heard that these were the reasons Raees was not passed, but I don’t agree."

"I think they should release the film in its entirety. I found Raees to be a pure entertainer and Shah Rukh Khan’s character more of a Robin Hood one and more positive than negative. I know in India both Hindus and Muslims have liked the film as it’s based on a true story. But in Pakistan, one never knows- the decision of today can be changed tomorrow," he added
