Hezbollah Targets Israel with Drone, Rocket Attacks: Vows More Retaliation After Commander’s Death

On Tuesday, August 6, Lebanon's Hezbollah launched a series of drone and rocket attacks on northern Israel, targeting military sites near Acre and hitting an Israeli military vehicle. This escalation comes in response to the recent killing of a prominent Hezbollah commander by Israel. The group's leaders have warned that their retaliation is far from over, indicating growing regional tensions.

The attacks involved a swarm of drones aimed at two military locations near Acre and a separate Israeli military vehicle. The Israeli military confirmed intercepting some drones from Lebanon, but one attack resulted in injuries to civilians near Nahariya. The impact occurred near a bus stop on a major road, according to Reuters.

Israeli military sirens in Acre initially caused alarm, but it was later confirmed to be a false alert. In retaliation, the Israeli air force targeted two Hezbollah facilities in southern Lebanon. The escalating conflict has raised concerns about the potential for a broader war in the Middle East, particularly after recent targeted killings by Israel and promises of vengeance from Hezbollah and Iran.

Hezbollah has issued a statement declaring, "The response to the assassination of commander Fuad Shukr has not yet come."

On the same day, a strike in the Lebanese town of Mayfadoun, about 30 kilometers from the border, resulted in the deaths of four people. Medics and a security source confirmed the casualties, with two additional sources indicating that the victims were Hezbollah fighters, although the group has yet to confirm this.

Over the past ten months, Hezbollah and the Israeli military have engaged in a series of retaliatory strikes along the border, amid ongoing conflict in Gaza. The recent attacks follow Israel's killing of Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah's top military commander, in an operation targeting the group's stronghold in southern Beirut.

Hezbollah's leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, has vowed a calculated response, stating that it will be "studied."
