Over 254 malnourished kids have died in the neighboring Palghar district. On hearing this the Bombay High Court has pulled up the Maharashtra government for not curbing the malnutrition deaths in the tribal areas across the state.
A bench led by Justice VM Kanade, also cautioned the state government saying that the reply made in this case was not satisfactory. He summoned all the secretaries of the concerned departments and issued contempt notices against the state.
Justice VM Kanade said that, the state governments deep slumber at a time when children were dying of malnutrition was really shocking. He further said that, the affidavits filed by the government showed that the situation had been attended to only at a superficial level.
They directed the chief secretary to personally look into the matter and to ask the state to provide good healthy food to the tribal children and also to monitor their progress.
Justice VM Kanade said that, he hoped the state woke up from their sleep and address the issue earnestly.
