In a big relief to Former Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, he has been granted anticipatory bail by the Manipur High Court has granted in connection with a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The bail was granted to O Ibobi Singh by the Manipur High Court after he furnished a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties. The single-judge bench of Justice MV Muralidaran granted the anticipatory bail to the former CM.. The bail was granted under the condition that he would not leave Manipur without the ED's permission. The CM has further been asked by the Court to appear before the ED as and when summoned.
Moreover, the ED has been allowed to approach the Court if Ibobi fails to appear when summoned. Notably, the former had moved the Manipur High Court seeking anticipatory bail following reports that he is likely to be arrested by the ED in connection with a money laundering case. It was alleged that Singh, while working as Chairman of MDS from June 30, 2009 to July 6, 2017, in conspiracy with others, misappropriated Government funds to the tune of Rs. 332 crore out of the total amount of Rs. 518 crore which was entrusted to them for the purpose of executing development work in the sate.
