NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that a high-level probe into the "accidental" firing of a missile that landed in Pakistani territory on March 9 had been ordered.

"The Defence Ministry has taken the matter seriously, and once the high-level investigative team publishes its report, the actual reasons for it will be revealed," Singh added.

In response to the incident, he stated that a missile was accidentally released at around 7 p.m. during routine maintenance and inspection. It was then found that the missile had landed within Pakistani territory. While the situation is regrettable, we are grateful that no one was injured," Singh continued.

The government has taken the situation very seriously, according to the Defense Minister, and a high-level investigation has already been ordered. "I also want to clarify that after this occurrence, the regular operative procedures for operations, instructions, operations, and maintenance will be evaluated." "We place the highest importance on the safety and security of our weapon system, and any errors found in this area will be quickly corrected." "I also want to reassure the House that, in addition to world-class safety procedures, our Missile system is highly secure and reliable," Rajnath Singh added.
