KATHMANDU: In October this year, armed forces personnel from India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka will embark on a remarkable bike expedition tracing the Buddhist Circuit, following the path of enlightenment.

This unique journey, organized collaboratively by the governments of the three countries and the Royal Thai Monastery, will commence in Lumbini, Nepal, and conclude in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

“This expedition represents a significant historical event, bringing together India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka for a Buddha Circuit bike ride. The journey will span seven Indian states: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu,” said Rahul Patil, co-convener of the Heartfulness Buddha Circuit Ride.

The ride will cross the Indian Ocean with the support of the Indian Navy. As the team approaches Sri Lanka, they will be welcomed by the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. The expedition will traverse Sri Lanka for about seven days, culminating in a closing ceremony attended by the President of Sri Lanka.

Scheduled to begin in the second week of October and wrap up by the first week of November, the expedition will feature 21 bikers from the security forces of the participating nations. They will visit key locations associated with Gautam Buddha, revered as the Light of Asia.

Nepal's Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, will kick off the Heartfulness Bike Expedition in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. The bikers will travel through seven Indian states and board an Indian Navy ship from Chennai to Kankesanthurai in Sri Lanka's Jaffna district. From there, they will journey through Sri Lanka to the capital, Colombo.

As the bikers traverse various Indian states, welcome and flag-off ceremonies will be held in the presence of each state's Chief Minister.
