Home Minister Rajnath Singh flags off ‘Run for Unity’ marathon in National Capital

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 'Run for Unity' marathon from Major Dhyanchand Stadium in the national capital New Delhi today to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel .On this occasion, thousands of people from all over the country are participating in this milestone event. Well-known sportsperson and Celebs from all walks of life also participated in this event.

In Assam Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flag off RunForUnity in Guwahati. 

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan participated in the event from Odhisa while Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated from Chennai. Talking to ANI Defense minister said post our freedom movement, Sardar Patel worked hard to get more than 550 princely states together to make India one. It's only reason that we remember him today.

In addition, Former five-time world boxing champion Mary Kom and gymnast Dipa Karmakar who is the first Indian female gymnast in the history of the Commonwealth Games to grab a bronze medal, also joined the marathon.

According to media reports, participants from Sports Authority of India (SAI), National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) also participated in 'Run for Unity' marathon.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Statue of Unity, which is the tallest statue in the world, will be inaugurated today by PM Narendra Modi in Gujarat's Sadhu Bet on his 143rd birth anniversary shortaly.
