NEW DELHI: Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla said on Wednesday that the Home Ministry had created a new online platform for letter rogatory (LR) requests for investigation agencies and the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT).
As part of reciprocity, Bhalla said at the opening of the Interpol Liaison Officers Workshop organised by the Central Bureau of Investigation on the topic of "LRs/MLAT and Extradition Matters" that requests for legal assistance from other nations should also be given top attention.
The Home Secretary requested comments and proposals for how to make foreign avenues for collaboration in criminal issues more effective.
The workshop was attended by Interpol Liaison Personnel from States, Union Territories, other law enforcement organisations, and CBI officers.
The session also concentrated on using Interpol Notices and creating requests with a criminal justice focus.
Bhalla also emphasied that the requests from other countries for legal assistance should also be treated on priority as part of reciprocity. He invited feedback and suggestions for improving the efficacy of international cooperation channels for assistance in criminal matters.
