New Delhi: The central government has now become strict about the conversions going on in the country. The Union Home Ministry has issued some guidelines to NGOs in this regard. In order to stop the conversion, the government has to inform all the members and officials of non-government organizations (NGOs) who have received foreign funds, they have never been involved in the conversion of any person.

In this notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry has announced a change in the Foreign Fund (Regulation) Act (FCRA). Under this, it will not be necessary to inform the government to those who receive personal gifts up to one lakh rupees. Earlier this amount was fixed at 25 thousand rupees. According to the ministry, each important member and official of the NGO must provide a certificate that he has neither been sentenced nor convicted for the conversion of anyone.

Earlier, according to FCRA 2010, it was mandatory to give such certificate only to those applying for the post of Director of NGO. The ministry said that this step has been taken to curb those who increase communal tension through works such as conversion. Also, the NGO officials and members will have to give an affidavit that they have not been involved in the activities of misuse of foreign funds or promoting treason and violence. In fact, some NGOs have been accused of converting money, especially tribal people, by showing greed for money.
