Apple Set to Launch New Smart Displays Powered by HomeOS - Apple is preparing to make a significant entrance into the smart home market with two innovative smart displays, powered by a new operating system called HomeOS. This move signifies Apple's commitment to advancing smart home technology, integrating cutting-edge AI features with home control capabilities.
Two New Devices in Development
First Device: Codenamed ‘J595’
Status: Currently in the early stages of development.
Features: This device will resemble a large iPad, serving as a 'touch screen HomePod' equipped with a robotic arm. It will also include a low-end display designed for FaceTime use.
Expected Cost: Priced at over $1,000.
Second Device: Codenamed ‘J490’
Features: A more affordable smart display focused on facilitating video calls via FaceTime and controlling various smart home devices.
Expected Launch: Anticipated to be available in 2025, this device will have an interface optimized for applications like Calendar, Notes, and Home.
The Role of Apple Intelligence
These smart displays will utilize Apple Intelligence, Apple's proprietary AI technology, to streamline everyday tasks. HomeOS, which is based on tvOS, will power these devices. As reported by Mark Gurman, “The Apple Intelligence tools will be at the heart of both products, helping the company bring AI into the home.”
Apple's long-term vision includes merging tvOS and HomeOS into a single unified system for all smart home products, such as the Apple TV and HomePod.
Prototypes of these devices are exploring features like magnetically attaching to walls or resting on desks to enhance their functionality.
With this venture, Apple is positioning itself as a competitor in the smart home market, aiming to bring a futuristic touch to home automation.
