Honda Cars India has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to advance its artificial intelligence (AI) technology, aiming to improve driving safety by fostering communication between humans and machines. This collaboration will focus on developing AI capabilities for better understanding of the environment, driving scenes, and human intentions.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU), engineers from Honda Cars and Honda R&D Co., a subsidiary of the Japanese automaker, will work closely with IIT Delhi researchers. The goal is to enhance Honda's Cooperative Intelligence (CI) technology, which is designed to prevent traffic collisions and enable automated driving.

Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, highlighted the significance of this partnership, saying, "The mobility industry is undergoing a major transformation, driven by the demand for sustainable products powered by AI. This collaboration combines IIT Delhi's research expertise with Honda’s practical experience, accelerating innovation for the benefit of both society and consumers."

Honda is already testing its CI-powered micro-mobility vehicles in Joso City, Japan, as part of this technological effort. The partnership with IIT Delhi sets joint research themes, including environmental recognition and cooperative driving behavior. Professors and students from IIT Delhi will work alongside Honda engineers to plan, develop, and test new technologies, fostering deeper academic and industry collaboration.

As part of the research, Honda and IIT Delhi will focus on verifying driving assistance and automated driving technologies in the suburbs of Delhi. This will allow them to refine AI-driven systems in real-world traffic conditions, ensuring they can be applied effectively to driver assistance and automated driving across India and other regions globally.
