NEW DELHI: The last date for submitting nominations for the 2024 Padma Awards is September 15th. The Indian government has issued a reminder to all citizens, emphasizing that nominations or recommendations for the Padma Awards 2024, set to be announced on Republic Day in 2024, will be accepted until the aforementioned date.

These nominations or recommendations for the prestigious Padma Awards can be conveniently submitted online through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal, which has been open for submissions since May 1st. A crucial requirement for the submission is a citation containing a maximum of 800 words. This citation should clearly highlight the remarkable and exceptional accomplishments or contributions made by the recommended individuals in their respective fields.

The Padma Awards, comprising Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, stand as some of the highest civilian honors in India. Instituted in 1954, these awards are traditionally disclosed on the eve of Republic Day each year. They are intended to acknowledge individuals' outstanding work and achievements across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including but not limited to Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science, Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade, and Industry.

It's important to note that government employees, with the exception of doctors and scientists, are ineligible for consideration for the Padma Awards. The Ministry of Home Affairs has encouraged all citizens to actively participate in the nomination process, even allowing self-nomination. Furthermore, the Ministry emphasizes the need for concerted efforts to identify and recognize individuals from various segments of society, including women, marginalized communities, SCs & STs, differently-abled individuals, and others who selflessly serve the community and deserve recognition for their excellence and achievements.
