Houses collapsed in heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, 9 died

Chennai: Rain continues to wreak havoc in Tamil Nadu. A house collapse is reported amid heavy rains in the Vellore district of the state. Nine people, including four children, have lost their lives in the accident. CM MK Stalin has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who died in the incident.

Tamil Nadu has so far recorded 61 per cent more rainfall than normal during the northeast monsoon that began on October 1. Meanwhile, rain continues to wreak havoc in several parts of the state including districts of north Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has crossed the coast between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on Friday morning. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area has crossed the coast between Chennai and Puducherry.

IMD wrote on his Twitter handle that the low-pressure area over the South-West Bay of Bengal moved northwest. Between 3 am and 4 am on November 19, Puducherry and Chennai have crossed the coasts around north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh.
