Every year our country celebrates 10-day Ganeshotsava with great pomp. In India, this festival is celebrated in a street. Where small statues of Ganesha are installed in the houses, then big pandals are placed in the streets for the installation of Ganesha. Along with all these important things, we also need to know that since when did Ganeshotsav begin? Who started it in India?
Ganesh Chaturthi is mentioned in Shiva Purana. It was celebrated grandly during the rule of the Peshwas in India. Although it disappeared with the arrival of the British, no one could eliminate it. Bal Gangadhar Tilak had done the work of life in this. In the midst of the increasing atrocities of the British, Bal Gangadhar Tilak thought that Ganeshotsava should be started to unite the Hindus. Bal Gangadhar Tilak thought that Ganesh ji is such a deity, who is revered in every society. The result of Balgangadhar Tilak's hard work is that today Ganesh ji sits in every house, every street on Ganesh Chaturthi.
Today, the whole of India celebrates Ganeshotsav. But it started again in Maharashtra. The greatest contribution behind its re-start is by the great philosopher and freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak. In 1893, Bal Gangadhar Tilak announced to celebrate public Ganeshotsava in Pune to organize Hindus. Since then, the 10-day Ganeshotsav has been going on unchanged.
