Pakistan is going to choose its government through the general elections today. In this election, nearly 100 political parties of Pakistan are in the fray and their fate will be decided today. In such a case, let us know how elections are held in neighbouring Pakistan and how different the general elections are from India.

Firstly, let us tell you that 3459 candidates are trying their luck this time and 460 candidates belonging to fundamentalist organizations are in the fray in the general elections. This is the record number of candidates belonging to religious parties in the election of this time. At the same time, 8,396 candidates are in the fray for 577 seats of 4 provincial assemblies.

There is not much difference between the elections of India and Pakistan nor the government system here is different from India. Like the Parliament of India, there are two houses in the Pakistan House, the lower house is called the National Assembly and the Upper House is called the Senate. This national assembly is like the Lok Sabha of India.

The Parliament of Pakistan is called the Majlis-e-Shura and the lower house, the National Assembly, is called the Qaumi Mandambali. The High House, which means the Senate is called Ivan-e-Baala. Although the President is not a part of the Parliament in India, while the President of Pakistan is included in both the Houses of Parliament.

How are the elections held?

Like the Upper House of India, members of the Pakistani Senate elect members of the provincial assemblies, while members of Lower House National Assembly are elected from the general elections, which are going to be held on 25th July.

There are 545 members in India's Lok Sabha, two are nominated, while the number of members of Pakistan's National Assembly is 342, but only 272 of them are elected through direct voting. There is no election for the other 70 candidates.

These 70 seats are reserved for women, then 10 seats are reserved for the traditional and religious minority communities of Pakistan. Their election is under the proportional representation rule.

What is the Proportional Representation Rule?

Parties who contest elections make a list of some candidates. The party which won the votes of the people as much as the unreserved, that is to win the general seats, in the same proportion in 70 seats, their candidates are elected to the National Assembly. That is, the more general seats the party has, the more general seats, the more candidates will become MPs from reserved seats.

Members in India are called Members of Parliament, whereas members here are called Members of the National Assembly (MNA).

How elections take place in the Senate?

The Upper House Senate of the Pakistani Parliament has 104 members and it is elected on a different basis. According to Wikipedia, 14 members are elected from each assembly, eight members from Fata, two members one woman seat and one techno crate, 4 female members from each assembly, 4 from each assembly, each assembly, one seat minority member from each province.

The term of the Senate is 6 years. The Senate has given many special rights, which is not with the National Assembly. This parliamentary bill includes the powers of being forced to act as a law.
