India has taken the lead in data center capacity in the Asia-Pacific region, leaving behind countries like Australia, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Singapore, and Korea. With a whopping capacity of 950MW, India now stands as the top dog in this sector.

According to CBRE, India is poised to add even more capacity, expecting a surge of 850MW between 2024 and 2026, surpassing other major APAC nations.

Market experts are bullish about India's data center sector, citing robust growth and strong government support. In 2023 alone, the sector is estimated to rake in revenues of around US$7.44 billion. Network infrastructure is leading the charge, valued at US$5.09 billion.

India's data center market is on the rise globally, currently ranked as the 13th largest. There are plans for substantial expansion, with 45 new data centers slated for development by 2025, totaling a massive 13 million square feet and 1,015MW of capacity.

This surge in data center capacity is indicative of India's growing importance in the digital landscape. With increasing internet penetration and the adoption of digital technologies across various sectors, the demand for data storage and processing capabilities is skyrocketing. The government's initiatives to promote digitalization and investment-friendly policies have further fueled the expansion of the data center industry. This trend is expected to continue, positioning India as a key player in the global data economy in the years to come.
