Jyotiraditya Scindia, the newly appointed Union Minister of Communications, has underscored the pivotal role of the telecom and India Post divisions both domestically and globally. Taking over the ministry on Tuesday, Scindia, who previously served as Civil Aviation Minister in the Modi cabinet, expressed his commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India's 1.4 billion people.

"Both the telecom division and the India Post division have a significant role to play on both global and local stages, bringing together millions of hearts across the country and around the world," Scindia stated.

A 53-year-old leader and the son of late Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia, Jyotiraditya Scindia had previously served as Minister of State for Communications during the UPA government from 2007 to 2009.

As he steps into the role, one of Scindia’s immediate challenges is overseeing India’s 5G spectrum auction, scheduled to commence on June 25, which is anticipated to be a landmark event in the telecom sector. Additionally, he will focus on maintaining India’s three-private player telecom market structure and ensuring the viability of Vodafone Idea, where the government holds the largest stake.

Scindia faces another significant decision concerning granting satellite spectrum to global satellite communication giants like Eutelsat OneWeb, Elon Musk’s Starlink, and Amazon Kuiper through administrative means. The minister will soon determine the issuance of satellite service permits to Starlink and Amazon Kuiper.
