New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Thursday said 115 daily wage earners and 63 housewives committed suicide in India in 2021, sharing data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). A total of 1,64,033 suicides have been reported in the country, he said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. A total of 42,004 daily wage earners and 23,179 housewives committed suicide last year, Minister Nityanand Rai said while releasing NCRB data.
According to data presented by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in the Lok Sabha, 23,179 housewives, 20,231 self-employed people, 15,870 salaried, 13,714 unemployed, 13,089 students, 12,055 businessmen, and 11,431 private sector people committed suicide in 2021. At the same time, 5,318 farmers have also committed suicide. According to the report, on average, 115 daily wage laborers and 63 housewives commit suicide every day in the country. If we talk about the whole year, then 1,64,033 cases of suicide were registered across the country. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the report was tabled by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, according to the National Crime Records Bureau data.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said a multi-layered security mechanism has been adopted to protect the census data and no incident of a cyber attack or data hacking has been found in the system. Union Minister Nityanand Rai gave this information in response to MK Raghavan's question in the Lok Sabha.
