USA: At CES 2023, HTC unveiled the VIVE XR Elite, a new VR headset, giving the world a sneak peek at its newest project.

A 90Hz display, quad cameras for motion tracking, a 16MP camera for colour passthrough, a Snapdragon XR2 processor, a 12GB/128GB configuration, and approximately 16 hours of battery life are all included in this "lightweight and powerful" device.

The cost is $1,099 (nearly Rs. 90,400).

Following the teasers, HTC formally unveiled the VIVE XR Elite, which the company calls a "consumer-friendly device." The headset will compete with the Meta Quest Pro in terms of capabilities. With the VIVE XR Elite, HTC claims to be able to "combine Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR) capabilities into one small, light, powerful, and highly versatile device." This does appear to be a lofty description

The VIVE XR Elite, with its sleek appearance and silhouette of a pair of sunglasses, is similar to the VIVE FLOW. It has cameras on the front and sides on the outside. A display with a 1920x3840 resolution, 1920x1920 pixels-per-eye, and a refresh rate of 90Hz is featured on the standalone unit. Additionally, two controller grips with capacitive and hall sensors are included with the headset.

A quad camera setup is available with the VIVE XR Elite, which uses six degrees of freedom (DoF) inside-out tracking to track motion. A 16MP camera for the colour passthrough mode is also included.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor powers the VIVE XR Elite along with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is powered by a 26.6Wh hot-swappable, detachable battery that is located on the back of the headband. A Type-C port is available for charging the battery. It offers up to 16 hours of usage after a full charge.

Last year, there was only a modest increase in interest in AR/VR. In spite of this, HTC was still able to deliver a number of headsets and offer updates for its products.

While the company has made a comeback in the virtual reality space with the VIVE XR Elite, which is now up for pre-order for $1,099 (roughly Rs. 90,400), it is still unclear whether the headset will succeed in attracting consumers' attention this year.
