There is a unique temple located about 20 kilometers away from Gorakhpur city, where a huge crowd of devotees gathers every Monday. There is a special thing about the Shivling present inside this temple- Karma is written on it. The history of this temple is linked to the Mughal period and even today devotees stand in long queues to offer water here.

Swayambhu Shivling and its recognition

This temple located in Saraya Tiwari village of Gorakhpur is also known as Jharkhandi Shiv. People believe that this Shivling is more than 100 years old. The priests and devotees of the temple say that whoever comes here and prays, his wish is fulfilled.

Mughal invasion and the story of Shivling

There is an old belief about the Shivling of the temple that when Mohammed Ghaznavi invaded India, he tried to loot and destroy all the temples of the country. He also wanted to uproot this Shivling. But when his army failed to uproot the Shivling despite repeated attempts, he got the Kalma written on the Shivling so that no Hindu could worship it.

The story of the temple roof and pond

Another belief about the temple is that despite many attempts, a roof could not be put on this temple. The Shivling is still under the open sky. There is also a pond next to the temple, in which a king suffering from leprosy was cured by taking a bath.

Recognition increases in the month of Sawan

In the month of Sawan, the recognition of this temple and Shivling increases even more. On Mondays, people come here to worship and offer water, but in the month of Sawan, long queues are formed from the morning itself. Devotees wish to receive blessings by offering water to Lord Shiva. Many devotees come here and apply the paste on the Shivling, then offer Belpatra, and then offer water.
