More than 650 pilgrims aiming to visit Badrinath were sent back without seeing the temple due to missing the required registration, officials reported on Tuesday. Authorities are taking measures to manage the flow of pilgrims to Char Dham and prevent the disorder seen earlier in the yatra season.
Officials emphasized that pilgrims must complete the mandatory registration to avoid inconvenience. These requirements are strictly enforced to ensure smooth pilgrimages.
Over 650 pilgrims were turned away at the Gauchar checkpoint for lacking the necessary registration, as confirmed by the Chamoli SSP office. Additionally, 120 vehicles transporting these unregistered pilgrims were also sent back.
Authorities have taken action against five vehicle operators who brought unregistered pilgrims to Badrinath.
Authorities urge all pilgrims to complete their registrations before embarking on their journey to avoid being turned back and to ensure a more organized pilgrimage experience. The mandatory registration helps manage the high influx of visitors and prevents overcrowding, ensuring a safer and more comfortable visit for everyone. As the yatra season progresses, officials continue to monitor and adapt their strategies to handle the large number of devotees efficiently and to minimize any disruptions or health risks associated with high-altitude travel.
Approximately 20,000 pilgrims visit the temple daily. Since the temple gates opened on May 12 this year, 22 pilgrims have died due to heart-related issues.
Due to the increasing number of pilgrims visiting the Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has already extended the ban on "VIP Darshan" until May 31, 2024.
Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi announced in a letter to all state Chief Secretaries, "This year, we have seen a continuous surge in pilgrims visiting the Holy Char Dham in Uttarakhand. To manage this better, we have decided to continue the ban on 'VIP Darshan' until May 31, 2024."
To streamline the pilgrimage process, the state government has implemented a mandatory registration system for the Char Dham Yatra. Pilgrims must register at https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in/. Only those who have registered for a specific date will be allowed to visit the Dhams on that day.
