Hyderabad: The famous Kothapet fruit market will be shifted to the newly constructed market yard at Batasingaram. Because of which the market will be officially closed from midnight on Saturday. Muthyam Reddy, vice-chairman of the market committee, said that they have decided to close the market. and will be started from 1st October after shifting to the newly constructed market yard at Batasingaram. Reddy said the process of shifting the market will start from September 25 and will continue till October 1.

He urged the farmers and traders not to bring their produce to the market. He said that the committee has made all arrangements at Batasingaram Mandi premises to start operations from October 1. Kothapet village was a gram panchayat until a government order was passed by the then Andhra Pradesh government, in which it was amalgamated into the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority area, thereby amalgamating the municipality into a municipal corporation.

The merger of the village into a municipality was later challenged in a petition in the Telangana High Court, but this was quashed due to lack of qualifications. Kothapet is one of the largest fruit markets in the state of Telangana, and is an upcoming real estate destination. Due to overcrowding due to local businesses, it has been proposed that the newly constructed market yard at Batasingaram be shifted.
