After speculation that Opposition Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ampareen Lyngdoh might join the National People's Party, she announced on Monday that she would finish her tenure in Congress before deciding what to do next. Conrad K Sangma, the president and founder and Chief Minister of the National People's Party (NPP), admitted earlier on Monday that talks between Lyngdoh and the NPP were currently underway.

He said that Ampareen Lyngdoh and the NPP had been talking and that she was highly interested in the state's general growth. However, Lyngdoh stated during the debate that while there is political instability in Meghalaya, she will complete her tenure as a member of the Congress before making any decisions. "I will take a call at the appropriate time," she continued. Lyngdoh remarked that she was elected on a Congress ticket and that she will not be a "thief in the night" by leaving the party.

"Most importantly, I will not deceive my followers and will carry out my tasks as allocated by the party," she added.
