New Delhi: Indian Air Force is trying to enhance its combat capability. In any case, most of the aircraft with the Indian Army are 40-50 years old. This was recently referred to by the Chief of the Khud Air Force. In this connection, the Air Force has initiated the procurement process of 114 fighter jets.
Companies such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Eurofighter, Russian United Aircraft Corporation and Saab are in the race to secure a deal worth about $15 billion (around one lakh five thousand crore rupees) for 114 fighter jets for the Air Force. The same companies had earlier joined the bid for Medium Multi Roll Combat Aircraft (MMRCA). The companies have also put forward a number of attractive proposals to achieve the deal. Boeing, the US company, has proposed to manufacture F-16 aircraft in India.
India and France are also in talks over the supply of more than 36 Rafale aircraft. There are many other options that have come up. The delay in supply of fighter jets has affected the war preparedness of the Indian Air Force. The Air Force plans to gradually remove the outdated MiG-21 fighter jets, but due to delay in getting new aircraft due to various reasons, the plan is not able to materialize. Rafael aircraft could not reach in time due to the alleged dispute over the deals.
