On the night of February 17, an Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot was killed in a horrific road accident in Assam's Kaziranga. The dead has been identified as Flight Lieutenant George Kuriyakarj, according to sources. When the victim's car met head-on with a trailer coming in from the opposite way while travelling from Tezpur to Jorhat, the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, the mangled MG Hector with the registration numbers HP 38 G 0571 was engaged in the accident. While on usual early morning monitoring operations, local officers from the Kohora Police Outpost learnt about the accident that occurred at Bosagaon on National Highway 37.
The IAF pilot, who was travelling alone, was killed on the spot in the crash, according to a police officer. His car crashed head-on with a trailer truck coming from the opposite way. The trailer truck's co-pilot is said to have suffered serious injuries in the crash. Flight Lieutenant Kuriyakarj, an IAF officer, was a pilot with the Air Force's Sukhoi fighter aircraft. According to officials, the IAF pilot's lifeless remains have been sent to a hospital in Golaghat for post-mortem examinations.
