New Delhi: Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman of the Indian Air Force will be conferred Vir Chakra on Independence Day. He became the face of the military confrontation between India and Pakistan in February this year.

He is aware that a plane was shot down by a militia after chasing Pakistan's F-16 planes from mi-21 bison on February 27. Later, his plane was targeted by a missile that had already been fired and then moved to Pakistani territory. But after pressure from India, Pakistan had to free Abhinandan. Abhinandan was arrested by Pakistani security forces, though he was handed back to India at the Wagah border after about 60 hours.

The Veer Chakra is the third-highest ever award in India during the war. On the other hand, there is also a recent report that Wing Commander Abhinandan Vardhan, who shot down a Pakistani F-16, will once again be seen flying the MiG-21 fighter plane.
