New Delhi: Harmanpreet Kaur received harsh criticism for leading by example in the third game of the ICC Women's Championship series against Bangladesh, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) penalized her on Tuesday for transgressing the Code of Conduct.

The India skipper, who destroyed the stumps and insulted the referees, has been suspended for the next two international games.

The decision is a major setback for the India ladies, who will now play their first two matches without their captain at the Asian Games.

After the great Indian hitter was thrown out by the umpire in Saturday's drawn third ODI match against Bangladesh, Harmanpreet courted new controversy. While attempting to sweep a delivery from Nahida Akter, she was declared leg before wicket.

There was no DRS (Decision Review System) available, despite Harmanpreet's protests and claims that she had a bottom edge, which may have saved the Indian batter.

It's interesting to note that there was no DRS available throughout the whole series between the two women's teams, and there was no live TV coverage of any of the three games.

Harmanpreet broke the stumps after objecting to the match umpire's ruling and then took the long route back to the pavilion. After the match, the Indian captain took aim at the match officials, calling the umpiring "pathetic" and making the joke that the umpires should attend the trophy presentation with the India and Bangladesh teams.

Following the issue, the Indian women's team captain received criticism from various notable figures in the sport for her "deplorable" behavior.

For the Level 2 offense, Harmanpreet was penalised 50% of her match money. Additionally, she has three demerit points on her record for discipline. The 

Indian captain was found guilty of violating article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel and was forced to forfeit 25% of her salary for a Level 1 offense after she made a personal attack on the match officials during the Bangladesh series.

Akter Ahmed, a Bangladeshi-born ICC international panel match referee, had brought the allegations against Harmanpreet. There was no need for an official hearing because she admitted to the offenses.

Her absence from the first two matches of the Asian Games, which start on September 23, will result from the conversion of the four demerit points to two suspension points.
