Just after a few more hours, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 officially kick-starts with the opener between hosts England and South Africa at the Kennington Oval in London. The historic stadium in London is hosting matches since 1973 and will host the ICC World Cup 2019 opener on May 30.
England and South Africa both have played in this stadium but the Proteas don't hold a good record at the Kennington Oval, a contrasting record when compared to the favourites England.
The hosts have played as many as 47 ODIs at Kennington Oval and boast a decent record. In 47 matches so far, England has won 28 matches while tasting defeat in 17. Two matches ended in no-result for the Englishmen. South Africa, on the other hand, has played nine matches at the 2019 World Cup opener venue. The Proteas have won just three matches while losing the other six matches at Kennington Oval.

The Proteas will be worried about their result at the Kennington Oval but the Faf du Plessis-led South Africa, in the build-up to the showpiece event; have shown why they are hailed as one of the most talented sides in world cricket.
The Kennington Oval pitch, during the World Cup warm-up matches, helped the team batting second. England and New Zealand chased down the targets in their respective matches with ease. Overall, 26 matches out of 65 ODIs have been won by the team batting second.
