ICMR replies Indian Corona vaccine's effect on Corona's new strain

Thiruvananthapuram: New cases of corona have started reporting in India since the discovery of new strains of corona found in Britain, South Africa and Brazil. Everyone is afraid that the new strain of Corona has started spreading in India too. In the midst of all this, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has now claimed relief from Corona's new strain.

ICMR Director-General Dr Balaram Bhargava has said that the interim results of ongoing clinical trials in the country indicated that indigenous Covid-19 vaccines would also be effective in new strains of coronavirus which have been reported in Britain, South Africa and Brazil. Bhargava, while addressing an international webinar 'Kerala Health: Making the SDG a Reality' organized by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Kerala, said that a paper on the potential of Covaxin against Corona's new strains exposed in Britain has been accepted for publication.

Director-General of ICMR, Dr Balaram Bhargava further stated that in the case of Corona strain of South Africa and Brazil, efforts are being made to isolate the mutated virus from samples collected from travellers from these two countries.
