Legendary radio personality Ameen Sayani, known for his iconic voice, passed away at the age of 91. His son Rajil Sayani confirmed that Sayani suffered a heart attack late Tuesday night, leading to his demise.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences, stating, "Pained to know that Shri Ameen Sayani Ji, the voice of the radio, is no more. Sayani Ji leaves a void behind that will be difficult to fill. His golden legacy makes him immortal. My sincerest condolences to his near and dear ones and millions of admirers. Om Shanti."
President Droupadi Murmu also mourned the loss, remembering Sayani's contribution to Indian broadcasting. "I am saddened to learn that Fali Nariman, a titan among legal luminaries, is no more. Among the wisest experts on our Constitution, he was also a globally respected jurist. He served the nation in various roles, including as a member of the Rajya Sabha, with equal dedication," the President wrote.
According to Rajil Sayani, the funeral will be held on Thursday in Mumbai, with some relatives still en route to pay their respects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Sayani's legacy, acknowledging his significant role in revolutionizing Indian broadcasting through his show 'Binaca Geetmala,' which became immensely popular among listeners.
Ameen Sayani, born on December 21, 1932, in Mumbai, began his career as an English-language broadcaster before transitioning to Hindi. His distinctive introduction, "Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon" became iconic, marking the beginning of his shows.
Sayani's influence extended beyond radio, as he appeared in several movies and voiced numerous jingles. His passing has left a void in the industry, yet his voice and contributions will continue to resonate for generations to come.
