WhatsApp users were dreading May 15 as they thought they would lose their account on this date. The day has finally arrived but no WhatsApp user is losing their accounts even if they have not accepted the new privacy policy. The company had earlier given an ultimatum to users that in order to continue using the messaging app users will have to accept the new privacy policy. But that is not happening anymore as the messaging app has announced updates related to the privacy policy.
Much ahead of the May 15 deadline, WhatsApp had said that it will not delete the accounts of users even if they don’t accept the privacy policy. But that’s not how simple things are. While WhatsApp might not take away your account, it will limit some functions. WhatsApp will keep sending reminders to users for weeks but despite the reminders if users don’t accept the privacy policy, the app will become completely useless. More like a dummy app without any basic features.
So during the initial period, WhatsApp will let users answer voice and video calls but not the chat list. Now if you are wondering how that is possible, it can only happen if you have enabled notifications. You can answer video calls, messages from the notification panel. Then after a few weeks, you will stop getting WhatsApp calls, messages and notifications about them. But before you reach this stage, WhatsApp will send you countless notifications.
“After a few weeks of limited functionality, you won’t be able to receive incoming calls or notifications and WhatsApp will stop sending messages and calls to your phone. At that point, users will have to choose: either they accept the new terms, or they are in effect prevented from using WhatsApp at all”.
The reminder which asks users to accept the policy, that occasionally pops up will appear permanently on your display whenever you open the messaging app. Practically barring you from access anything on the app. The only way to get rid of the fixed reminder screen is to tap on the “Accept” button that is provided below the message. If you do not feel sure about accepting the privacy policy, you can always migrate to another app because WhatsApp will not let any user use the app without accepting it.
Users who have already accepted the app will not notice any change in the app. They can continue using the app the same way they did before.
