Kamakhya Mata Temple is located in Guwahati district of Assam state of India. This temple is one of the 52 Shaktipeeths of Sati and here the vagina is especially worshipped. There is no idol or picture of the mother in this temple.

Importance of the temple

There is no idol or picture in the Kamakhya temple. There is an important religious story behind it: Lord Vishnu cut the body of Mata Sati into pieces to calm the Tandava of Lord Shankar. It is said that the womb and vagina of Mata Sati fell here. For this reason, this place holds special religious significance.

Geographical location of the temple

This temple is situated on the Nilanchal hills. To reach here, devotees have to climb these hills.

Tantric and Aghori worship

Kamakhya temple is considered to be an important place for tantriks and Aghoris. Various tantric rituals are performed here and Tantra Vidya is used for Aghori siddhi.

Structure of the temple

This temple is divided into three parts. The first part is the largest and common people cannot enter it. Devotees have darshan of the mother in the second part.

Ambubachi Fair

Every year in the month of June, Ambubachi fair is held here. This fair is held when the mother is menstruating. During this time the Brahmaputra river turns completely red. This fair lasts for three days, and during this time the doors of the temples of entire Guwahati remain closed.

On the fourth day, there is a long queue of devotees, and the aim of all is to obtain a cloth soaked in the menstrual blood of the Mother Goddess, which is considered to be a form of Shakti.

Uniqueness of the temple

Kamakhya temple is unique in itself. The method of worship and miracles here are not seen anywhere else in the world. This place is very important from religious and cultural point of view.
