The IIM Calcutta Faculty Association (IIMCFA), representing over 75% of the business school’s full-time faculty has written to the Ministry of Education (MoE), expressing grave concerns about the current state of affairs at the Institute and its implications for the future.

IIM Calcutta’s faculty has come together to raise their dissatisfaction with the functioning of the campus under the current director. The IIMCFA has written to the Ministry of Education demanding their intervention in the matter. They claim that only one additional faculty member has been recruited in the last two years, despite several resignations and retirements. According to the faculty, there has been a steep decline in research funding and they are worried that there is centralization of power in the hands of the Director, Prof Anju Seth.

The Association states vide their letter that they have reached out to the Director and the Board of Governors several times with their concerns but they had been brushed aside. “Over the last two years, there have been at least eight resignations from among regular and contractual non-teaching staff members, most of whom have not been replaced. This has adversely affected the quality of teaching and research. The general morale of the faculty and staff of the Institute is at an all-time low,” the staff wrote. The faculty also claim harassment, “It may be noted that just in the last two months two faculty members (including a foreign national) have resigned, citing harassment by the Director.
