KOLKATA: The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, which is ranked fifth in the Engineering category by NIRF Ranking 2020 and 58th by QS 2021 Asia Ranking, has recorded the highest placement offers in IIT history, accounting for 1,600 job offers with the highest CTC of Rs 2.4 crore per annum. In addition, 35 international job offers were received.
According to a statement released by the premier institute, two students received a package worth Rs 2 crore per year, while more than 21 offers were in the range of Rs 1 crore per year. IIT Kharagpur has completed the first phase of placement for this year by December 11, and the second phase is scheduled to begin in the second week of January 2022 due to the early progress.
It all started with IIT Kharagpur's Career Development Centre (CDC) receiving 276 pre-placement offers (PPO), where students were given eight-week internship opportunities with the start of placement for the academic session 2020-21. On the first day, over 30 companies participated, extending over 130 placement offers to final-year students.
IIT Kharagpur placed over 1,500 students on the seventh day of its placement drive (December 7, 2021), surpassing all previous years' total placement figures. Over 22 offers were made to IIT Kharagpur students in the CTC range of Rs 0.9 - Rs 2.4 crore, with over 10 of them coming from domestic companies.
