The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has introduced an online certification course focusing on the advancement of construction technology and management. This course aims to provide advanced knowledge in the field.

The program primarily targets professionals currently employed in structural design and construction firms, as well as faculty members in engineering colleges. It is also open to students who aspire to work in the construction industry.

Comprising 10 modules, the course covers a wide range of topics including engineering economics, concrete technology, road and pavement technology, construction planning and control, construction processes and productivity, quality assurance, durability and repair, safety measures, construction contracts, and resource-constrained schedule optimization.

Ashwin Mahalingam, the course coordinator from the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT-M, expressed, "We have designed this course to cater to the needs of both practicing and aspiring civil engineers. It will provide them with practical tools and guidelines to enhance their skills."

The deadline for course applications is August 20, 2023. The inaugural batch of the program will commence on September 1, 2023. The course entails 126 hours of recorded online instruction and 42 hours of live interaction with experienced faculty members. Candidates with backgrounds in architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or management are encouraged to apply. This program is offered by the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education, formerly known as the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). Established in 1986, the center serves as the coordinating body for all online programs provided by the institute.
