IIT-Kanpur receives a donation of Rs 100 crore from Indigo's co-founder

KANPUR: IIT Kanpur alumni Rakesh Gangwal, co-founder of budget carrier IndiGo, has offered a personal donation of Rs 100 crore to support the School of Medical Sciences and Technology. In a series of tweets, IIT Kanpur Director Abhay Karandikar confirmed the news.

"IIT Kanpur has some exciting news to share. Our alumni Rakesh Gangwal, co-founder of IndiGo Airlines, has given one of the largest personal donations in history by donating Rs 100 crore to help the School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT Kanpur "Karandikar sent out a tweet.

Gangwal has also agreed to collaborate with IIT Kanpur to establish a Medical Sciences and Technology school on the Kanpur campus. He also made a donation of Rs 100 crore to the cause. In addition, the IndiGo co-founder will soon join the institution's Advisory Board.

Gangwal, "It's an honour to be a part of such a noble endeavour with my alma mater. I am pleased to see that an institution that has produced hundreds of professionals in a variety of fields is now leading the way in healthcare. Healthcare is more than ever linked with technological advancements, and this school will expedite healthcare innovation." The construction of this school will be done in two stages. In the first phase, a 500-bed super-specialty hospital, academic block, residential/hostel, and service block with a total built-up area of roughly 8,10,000 square feet will be developed.
