These days south movies are breaking all the records and surpassing bollywood films. One of the most loved movies of this Kantara was dubbed and released in Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil released. Kantara was originally released in Kannada on September 30. As of October 31, the film has made over ₹250 crores worldwide. The dubbed versions alone account for over ₹50 crores of this figure.

In a recent interview, Rishabh Shetty the director and actor of Kantara opens up on working in Bollywood. He said, "I want to do Kannada movies. I’m a proud Kannadiga. It’s because of the Kannada film industry and Kannada people, I am here today. Just because a film becomes a hit, my family and friends won’t change no. My core lies with Kannada cinema."

He further said, "I believe more regional is more universal. If people like my content, I will present it here (in the Hindi belt). Otherwise, I will just release it in Karnataka. I didn’t make Kantara with a plan of making it a pan-India film. The film itself found its way across the country and we don’t even know how it happened. Now that it has become a pan-India hit, I don’t think I have to do the films a certain way. I’m going to tell the stories (of my region). And it will push me harde.”

Speaking about the film, Kantara, which translates to the mystical forest, tells the story of a local demigod (Bhoota) who trades forest land to the tribe’s people with a king in 1870 in exchange for happiness. Many years later, when the king’s son grows greedy and wants the land back, he dies due to the wrath of Bhoota. Set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, Kantara follows a Kambala champion, played by Rishab, who comes to loggerheads with an upright Forest Range officer, Murali (Kishore).
