IMD issues Orange alert for These Sothern State till November 23

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised an Orange alert for several Southern states, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from November 22 to 23.

In an announcement on Monday, the IMD cautioned residents of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal to brace for substantial rainfall ranging from 115.6 to 204.4 mm on November 22nd and 23rd.

Furthermore, Kerala and Mahe have also been placed on orange alert status by the IMD, with expectations of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall during the same period.

"Attention to Kerala and Mahe! Anticipate isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, varying between 115.6 to 204.4 mm, on November 22nd and November 23rd," stated the IMD in a communication via X.

The IMD has strongly advised the public to refrain from navigating water-logged areas, unpaved roads, and densely populated places amid the anticipated heavy rainfall.

"Today, there is a likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. We urge the general public to avoid water-logged regions, unpaved roads, and crowded areas during this orange alert period and to also raise awareness among those around them. Exercise caution and stay safe!" emphasized the IMD in a message shared on X.

Over the past fortnight, numerous regions in Tamil Nadu have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging and the closure of educational institutions.
