The weather department indicates a deepening low-pressure area over the southwestern Bay of Bengal, moving west-northwestward. By November 16, it is expected to intensify into a cyclonic circulation, reaching the northern Bay of Bengal from the Odisha coast.
Continuous rainfall is reported in the coastal and interior districts of Tamil Nadu. On November 14, heavy rains battered the coastal areas of Puducherry and Karaikal. Due to the incessant downpour, officials have declared holidays in schools across Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Cuddalore districts.
Chennai, along with at least 15 other districts, is likely to experience substantial rainfall according to early forecasts. The situation is being closely monitored, and precautions are being taken to mitigate potential challenges.

Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, anticipates the low-pressure area to become fully active by November 16. In light of this, a yellow alert has been issued for Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam districts.
