Amarnath Yatra has begun today. According to legends, Lord Shiva narrated the immortal story to Mother Parvati in the Amarnath Cave. It is a surprising thing to say that the Shivling in the cave is made of solid ice while the snow spread below is raw. Yes, it is said that Lord Shiva lives here and at the same time there is a Shaktipeeth of the Goddess. Mahamaya Shaktipeeth, out of 51 Shaktipeeths, is located in this cave because the throat of Goddess Sati fell here.

It is a rare coincidence to have the Shaktipeeth of Mata Sati with the wonderful Himling philosophy of Lord Shiva in Amarnath and such a coincidence cannot be seen anywhere else. It is said that not only Shivling but also two other snow lingas are formed in the form of Mata Parvati and Ganesha in this cave. On the other hand, Amarnath Dham Yatra begins with the month of Ashadha and runs till the Raksha Bandhan, i.e. Shravan Purnima. As the size of the moon decreases, the size of the Shivling also decreases, says Darshanthi.

The holy cave of Amarnath was discovered by a Muslim Shepherd and his name was Buta Malik, that is why its descendants are still given a share of the donated money. There is also a legend that is such that when Lord Shiva was telling the story of immortality to Mata Parvati, a pair of shuk i.e. parrots and two pigeons were also listening to it. Shuk later became famous by the name of Rishi Shukdev. Even today, a pair of pigeons are sometimes seen here, which is valid as Shiva Parvati.
