Islamabad: Pak's Imran Khan government has finally succumbed to radical Islamic party Tehreek-e-Lubbek Pakistan (TLP). After negotiations with the fundamentalists, it announced that it would bring a resolution on the expulsion of the French envoy to Parliament and quash all cases against banned TLP activists. In a video statement, Home Minister Sheikh Rashid confirmed that a resolution on the expulsion of the French Ambassador will be moved in the National Assembly under an agreement with the government and TLP.

He also announced the abolition of cases registered against TLP activists on terrorism charges and said the names of TLP leaders will also be removed from the Fourth Schedule. The expulsion of the French ambassador is one of the main four demands of the radical Islamic party TLP, which was banned last week following violent protests across the country. Rashid further said that under the agreement, TLP has also agreed to end its performance in Lahore and other cities of the country. However, further talks with the party will continue.

While the negotiations between the government and the TLP were going on, activists staged a dharna at the party headquarters in Lahore and kept the pressure on the government. The government tried to stop demonstrations by placing containers on roads leading to Rawalpindi and Islamabad and stopped cell phone and internet services in parts of the country, including Lahore, but the government had to bow down. The biggest pressure on the government was to take 11 police officers hostage, who was released by TLP supporters on Monday with injuries after the first round of negotiations.
