Jerusalem:  The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that two Palestinian men were killed by Israeli soldiers on Monday during an army raid in the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank. This is the latest incident in a year-long uptick in violence that shows no signs of slowing down.

The two people were allegedly helping a shooter who last month shot two soldiers in the occupied West Bank town of Hawara, according to the Israeli military. The army claimed that during the raid, its soldiers came under fire and retaliated, confirming "hits."

With almost daily Israeli arrest raids in Palestinian-controlled areas and a wave of Palestinian attacks, violence has increased recently in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

For the second week of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the US has attempted to mediate talks between Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinians.

According to a count by the Associated Press, at least 88 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli or settler gunfire this year. In the same time frame, 15 people have been killed in Palestinian attacks on Israelis.

According to Israel, the majority of those killed were militants. However, individuals not involved in the altercations as well as youths throwing stones in protest of the incursions have also died.

In the 1967 Middle East conflict, Israel seized control of the West Bank, east Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Those territories are what the Palestinians want for their future independent state.
