NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) India’s leading probe agency on Saturday carried out fresh raids at over 12 locations in Uttar Pradesh and national capital Delhi in connection with illegal sand mining case.

As news agency ANI reported the raids were conducted at multiple locations in Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Hamirpur and Jalaun in link with the illegal sand mining in Uttar Pradesh.

The CBI teams raided the residences of a number of senior government officers, including IAS officer B Chandrakala, stated media reports.

Chandrakala is said to be vastly trendy on social media for her movement against corruption. She is 2008 batch IAS officer of the UP cadre and hails from Telangana.

Videos of the woman IAS officer telling off erring civic official in UP's Bulandshahr had gone viral on internet a few months ago. Media reports also suggested that an 11-member team of the CBI raided Chandrakala's residence in Lucknow and seized a number of significant documents in link with the case.

Chandrakala has come under scanner for purportedly bypassing rules and regulations for approving licenses for sand mining during her term as District Magistrate of Hamirpur in 2012.

The agency also held raids at the residences of BSP leader Satyadev Dikshit and SP MLC Ramesh Mishra in Hamirpur in link with the illegal sand mining case.
