In the history of the country's Lok Sabha elections so far, only six women candidates, including Sonia Gandhi, have won from 12 Lok Sabha constituencies of North Karnataka. Not only that, there are eight Lok Sabha constituencies of North Karnataka, where so far no single woman candidate has won. It is also worth mentioning that out of the women selected for the Lok Sabha, four were ministers in the center. Out of the six women candidates who won the elections, three were from Karnataka, while three were elected from Karnataka. Among the winning women, four Congress was elected from a Janata Dal and one from BJP. In the Lok Sabha and the Assembly, there was a lot of discussion and reactions about giving 33 percent reservation to women, but after the issue of Lok Sabha, women in Uttar Karnataka got very little chance.

Ratnamala Sevnur from Chikkodi area, Sarojini Mahishi from Dharwad area, Margaret Alva from North Kannada area, Basavarajeshwari and Sonia Gandhi from Ballari area were elected for Lok Sabha. Previously, Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency was the Dharwad North Lok Sabha area. Sarojini Mehdi was elected four times in this area. She is the first MP from the state to receive the title. From 1962 to1977 Sarojini Mehsana was elected MP four times for Congress.

Ratnamala was elected to the Lok Sabha from Savarkar from Chikkodi area in 1996 from the Janata Dal. After defeating Shankaranand in the 1996 election, Ratnamala Savanur was the Deputy Minister in the Gujarat government. Basavarajeshwari was elected to the Lok Sabha three times in the Ballari Lok Sabha constituency from 1984 to 1991. n the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi contested from the Ballari region. Sonia also contested from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Following the victory in Ballari, Sonia Gandhi held Amethi seat and resigned from Ballari.
