ADEN: A military official confirmed that an explosion caused by a booby-trapped car struck a military convoy of Yemen's Defence Ministry in the country's northern oil-rich province of Marib."A number of military trucks belonging to the Saudi-backed Yemeni government were bombed while passing through the road in Marib's Al-Wadi district," according to reports citing a local military source.

According to the source, Tuesday's explosion did not result in any fatalities, but destroyed trucks loaded with weapons belonging to pro-government forces in Marib. No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing attack, and the internationally recognised Yemeni government's Ministry of Defense has made no official comment on the incident.

Yemen's Ministry of Defense, which is currently headquartered in Marib, has been subjected to repeated armed attacks by Houthi rebels attempting to seize the entire province, which includes strategic oil and gas fields.Yemen has been embroiled in civil war since 2014, when the Houthi militia militarily overran the country and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015 to bolster President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's government following his exile by the Houthis.
