In northwest Pakistan, a suicide bomber at a mosque killed a police officer

Pesahwar: A police officer was killed on Tuesday in northwest Pakistan, close to the Afghan border, when a suicide bomber detonated himself inside a roadside mosque as the officer attempted to apprehend him.

According to police official Saleem Khan, the bombing occurred in the Khyber neighbourhood of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the mosque collapsed as a result of the explosion's impact.

When the suspect entered the mosque to hide, he claimed there were no worshippers present.

Since the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, broke a months-long cease-fire with the government last year, there has been a rise in militant violence in Pakistan.

Although they are a different organisation, the Pakistani Taliban support the Afghan Taliban. Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021, when US and NATO troops were preparing to leave the country after 20 years of conflict, they have grown more confident.
