YADGIR: In a harsh attack on the Congress party in election-bound Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said previous governments were responsible for the backwardness of northern part of the state.

Speaking at a public rally in Kudekal village of Yadgir district Prime Minister Modi said, "The north Karnataka territory has the same potential as other regions. But, the previous governments did not even bother to think of providing  water, infrastructure, road and power to the region.." He appreciated Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister, and his team for their efforts to hasten the development of the north Karnataka region. In the days ahead, the area will make development advances, he said.

"We must draw lessons from the past errors. Previous governments absolved themselves of responsibility for assuring development by designating the area as backward, " he added. "They made no effort to investigate what is impeding the development. All of their attention was on vote-bank politics. However, we do not prioritise vote-bank politics. Development, development, and more development are our sole priorities"  Prime Minister said.

\He further attacked the opposition that they were only looking for votes on caste and religious basis.

"The nation won't advance unless each and every district grows. One of the top 10 of the nation's 100 aspirational districts is Yadgir. It has been successful in achieving 100% vaccination of children, a decrease in the percentage of malnourished children, and 100% connectivity of village roads in Yadgir district "he said.

"North Karnataka territory is a 'bowl of dals'. The farmers of this region have helped the country to reduce the import of dal from foreign countries," he said.
