According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, Indian automakers' retail sales increased by 11% in September as stronger manufacturer supply allowed dealers to increase client deliveries amid the holiday fervor. As of last month, total retail sales were 14,64,001 units, up from 13,19,647 units during the same time last year. The FADA also stated that because the holiday season is starting to pick up the pace, October sales are anticipated to be much greater overall.
Dealers predict that the current holiday season will be the strongest for the passenger vehicle market in ten years since the auto industry expects even better sales during the month. With the exception of tractors and some three-wheeler trims, all auto segments—passenger cars, commercial trucks, and two-wheelers—performed better in September than they did in the same month last year.
Retail sales of passenger vehicles rose 10% last month to 2,60,556 units from 2,37,502 units in September 2021. Manish Raj Singhania, the president of FADA, told PTI that this was possible because of easier semiconductor supply, new product launches, and devices with plenty of features. For the purpose of obtaining their preferred autos during the auspicious period, Singhania continued, "(all this) kept clients tied to dealerships."
He continued: "FADA asks OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to match supply to demand while semiconductor supply continues to wane so that PV sales can further increase."
Maruti Suzuki India topped the sector in the passenger vehicle segment with retail sales of 1,03,912 units in September, up from 99,276 units in the same month last year. Last month, rivals Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India sold 39,118 and 36,435 cars, respectively. With the sale of 2,84,160 units in September, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India lead the two-wheeler market. Hero MotoCorp came next with 2,50,246 unit registrations.
