In the final of the African Cup between Senegal and Egypt, the eyes were on Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Both the stars of Liverpool were in the fray for their respective teams and the team of Senegal, who won the title for the first time in the 65-year  history of the tournament, defeated Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout. The help of shootout was also taken after a goalless equaliser for the stipulated and extra time. Seven-time champions Egypt lost two penalties in the shootout.  

Sadio cashed in on important penalties: Sadio helped to encash important penalties while he had also lost the opportunity in the first stipulated time. When the Egyptian player made a mistake in the box in the 7th minute and Sadio Mane's attempt has been saved by Egyptian goalkeeper Mohammad Abou Gabal. The tournament has been started at the Olembe Stadium. It is the same stadium in which 8 people were killed and 38 injured during a stampede during the match between Cameroon and Comoros on January 24.  

Salah started crying after the defeat: After cashing in on the crucial penalty kick, Mane ran happily but after the win, he is also seen consoling salah of his club's friend and rival Egypt team who started crying after the defeat by covering his face with the jersey. Salah looked absolutely off-colour. He scored two goals on the goal but he was not accurate.  

This was Salah's second final in Africa but he could not make the country claim the title. In 2017 final, Egypt was defeated by Cameroon. The Egyptian team had landed without their coach Carlos Cuirros who has been ruled out for a match in the semi-finals over an argument with the referee. He sat in the audience gallery and watched the match.
