Vijay Sethupathi, who was last seen in late director SP Jananathan's final film Laabam, paid his tributes to the statue in Chennai. In the presence of various celebrities, including Vijay Sethupathi, the late director's statue was constructed and unveiled in a grand ceremony. The actor became emotional as he spoke about his time working with the late director.

Vijay Sethupathi said during the ceremony that working with SP Jananathan on his previous film was the best experience of his life. He went on to say that despite not knowing much about SP Jananathan, he was flabbergasted by his comments when working with him on the films 'Purampokku' and 'Laabam.'

Vijay Sethupathi, who worked with SP Jananathan for the first time in the 2015 political thriller Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai, had a strong relationship with the late director and admired his principles. SP Jananathan, a National Award-winning director, died of brain death. The filmmaker was found unresponsive at his home and sent to the hospital.

On September 9, Laabam was released in Tamil and Telugu to mixed reviews. The film stars Jagapathi Babu, Sai Dhanshika, and Kalaiyarasan in crucial roles in a political thriller. Actors Jagapathi Babu, Sai Dhanshika, and Kalaiyarasan play pivotal parts in the film.
